Halloween 2009

Happy Halloween! Hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween. We all had a wonderful time, especially now that they understand trick-or-treating. We kicked off the day with the neighborhood Halloween party where the kids' costumes were a hit! Thanks mom, for making their amazing outfits! Eva was so excited to be Jasmine, and for Dylan to be "Elvist". They enjoyed decorating pumpkins, playing games and getting sprayed with silly string. That night, it was fun watching Eva show Dylan how to trick-or-treat. After a few houses he got the hang of it and was running up to the doors. Many of our neighbors go all out and make their own haunted houses...I'm doing good to set out a few pumpkins. :) Eva preferred to skip the "tricks" this year, but Dylan is still young enough that he didn't mind walking through the "Thriller graveyard" to meet a Michael Jackson giving out treats (who by the way, was honored to meet "The King of Rock and Roll") Once we returned home, the kids were just as excited to pass out the candy as they were to receive it. Much fun was had by all. Eva is already planning her costume for next year, "a princess with a blue dress." I said "oh, Cinderella." She said "No, mommy. A princess with a blue dress." Ah, I stand corrected.

Pumpkin Patch and Ft. Worth Zoo

Part of Daddy's "stay-cation" two weeks ago involved our annual visit to the Pumpkin Patch of Flower Mound, as well as a trip to the Ft. Worth Zoo. Eva already knows that when we start taking note of the leaves changing color, it also means pumpkins, treats and costumes, and asked over a month ago when we would be going to the Pumpkin Patch. It is a great place for the kids, but so hard to get a pic of the two of them while they're heading in different directions or watching other kids run away from their camera-toting parents. Last year Eva got stuck in the hay maze and Keith had to get her out. This time she was able to find her way through and also help her little brother. Dylan was too young for the bounce house this year (although he was almost as big as some of the 3 year olds...lol :). So, he'll have to wait until next year to jump with his big sister.

We all enjoyed our trip to the zoo as well. The monkeys were funny, especially the chimp that waved to us while enjoying a head of lettuce. Eva was happy she finally got to see zebras, (she still talks about not seeing any at Animal Kingdom), however she was then disappointed the zoo didn't have any jaguars. Dylan loves animals and was excited to see them except when we tried to get a photo of him and the sleeping gorilla.

U2 Concert (opening group-Black Eyed Peas)

Okay, so maybe not "hobnobbing", but we did meet Fergie of Black Eyed Peas, and Keith literally bumped into Taboo (the American Indian member of the group) at the hotel brunch. I've always been thankful for having a husband who loves to research our vacation destinations down to the most minute detail, but when he told me we were staying at an Historic Hilton in downtown Oklahoma City I didn't think that meant the Black Eyed Peas would also be staying there. (Of course, we were hoping we would run into any member of U2.) Although Fergie doesn't look it in the photo she was very polite, as was Taboo. I was already bummed that Will-I-Am passed us in the lobby and we didn't get a photo. So when Fergie made her way through the lobby and out to the van where the rest of the group was waiting, I made Keith take a pic. As he was firing away with our paparazzi camera, she walked over to us, very politely shook our hands and asked if he could "at least take my picture where the sun isn't in my eyes". Then she struck her pose...and the wind blew my hair and I closed my eyes. Go figure. This photo would be deleted if Fergie wasn't in it!



Long story short...we had a very nice weekend getaway, enjoyed sleeping in, eating leisurely, and seeing U2 and Black Eyed Peas in concert. That was the longest I've ever been away from my kids (I know, I need to get out more), and now I know they are fine without me, and I am capable of being away without worrying too much. Keith's goal is to eventually take a week-long vacation...but that's a while off for now. :) The only thing that would've made the trip better is if Keith had met Bono or The Edge. Maybe another time.

Weekend Update

Here is your latest installment of "What's New with the Robinson Kids"

Eva and I were playing a board game The Grouchy Ladybug, while Dylan was coloring with markers. Mommy was re-reading the directions and rules...in my opinion it is a pretty complicated game for a 3 year old. I prefer the classics like Candyland and Hi-Ho Cherrio, but Eva insisted on this game. Anyway, while I was busy reading the rules, Dylan was busy coloring his nose....

More on our little monkey...

A few weeks ago while visiting Grandmommy, Dylan decided to jump out of the crib because he didn't want to go to bed. Actually, I think he fell out. He was pretty stunned when I found him on all fours on the floor. We hoped he would learn a lesson and be more careful...instead, a few days later when he didn't want to nap, he tried climbing out of his bed. Unfortunately, he is in the "fearless" stage of toddlerhood...looks like he might be moving to a toddler bed sooner than mommy would like! Yikes! Stay tuned for that story.

As you know Eva LOVES her dinosaurs, so much that she wants to sleep with them, along with her 8-10 other stuffed animals. There's barely enough room for her to sleep! I draw the line at hard, plastic dinosaur toys with horns and spikes. The other day when changing the sheets, I reached into one of the pillows to find her stash of hidden dinos. Sneaky little thing. When approached about said dinosaurs, her response was..."hmmm, maybe Eva put them there" She doesn't usually speak in third person ...unless she is caught red handed. :)

A few months ago we had our first movie night at home with Eva. She picked the movie at Blockbuster, The Tale of Despereaux (very cute). We made popcorn, had M&M's and "fizzy water". She enjoyed staying up late with Mommy and Daddy- so we thought. Every weekend after that we've asked if she wants movie night and her response has always been no. Tonight she finally revealed why she doesn't want movie night...because the big cat in the movie (Despereaux) is scary. Poor thing thought we had to watch the same movie! When I explained to her she could pick a different movie every time, she said "oh, yes, another movie night!"
