Best Buds
Our kids, although they adore each other, definitely have their fair share of sibling squabbles. So, when I caught them the other day playing "grocery store", I was so proud (and relieved) that they were getting along so well. Now that Dylan understands and enjoys imaginative play, Eva doesn't mind if he tags along or plays "dinosaurs" in her room. Especially since he has so much fun being the carnotaurus who eats the other dinosaurs, complete with sound effects, too. (are boys born with this ability?) One morning after I cleaned up breakfast, I realized they were awfully quiet and was afraid of what I might find! Thankfully, I found them in Eva's room taking care of her baby dolls and giving them a check-up. I went to get the camera, but of course by the time I got back to snap a pic, they had moved on to something else. I do however have a few photos of their "disaster area". Man, they can make a mess in such a short amount of time! I find myself sounding like my mom when I ask whether a tornado tore through the room!
Dylan's New Words and Eva, the proud sister
By now you know that Dylan doesn't talk much...he is improving every day and will now at least try to say the words instead of ignoring or yelling. (I hear Einstein was a late talker. :) So when he said "pretzel, please" during snacktime, the look on Eva's face was priceless. You would've thought she was the proud mommy. Then in her very adult-like voice, she praised him, turned to me and said "aw, he's growing up".
We discovered over the past two weeks, that he prefers not to talk (hmmm, sound like anyone you know???). And when you can make people laugh with silly antics...who needs words?
Eva, the Negotiator
A couple of weeks ago, as I was helping her get ready for bed, Keith was looking for Dylan's "bah, bah" aka, pacifier...yes, he has 2 months before we say bye-bye to the binkie..poor guy.
... As Eva is putting on her pjs she proudly says "I don't use a bah-bah, I suck my thumb at night" (as though thumb-sucking is more acceptable than using a pacifier...and actually she sucks her thumb more than just at night, but I didn't remind her of that)
So, I asked "Do you think you could stop sucking your thumb when you turn four?"
Eva:"No" (insert "'are you crazy?" tone of voice)
Me: "Okay, how about when you turn five?"
Eva: "Hmm, how about when I'm six...no, no, no... eight."
Me: No, I think five is good, or maybe even sooner"
Eva: "No, ten"
Me: "TEN?!? My goodness, you can stop a lot sooner than that."
Eva: "Oh, o-kay, eight."
Eva runs to Dylan's room where Keith is getting Dylan dressed and announces "Daddy, when I'm ten I'll stop sucking my thumb"
Me: "Hey, I thought you said eight."
Eva: "I changed my mind."
