My New Goal

I am insanely behind on my blogging. Since Dylan stopped napping at home, I have zero 'free time'. And when they're both at school, I'm trying to catch up on errands, appts. or my 'projects'. (my newest is redecorating Dylan's room in a vintage airplane theme...have any old airplanes you'd like to donate?:) Nevertheless, my goal is to blog once a week, instead of a zillion updates on one day....months after the fact. (um, like the kids' birthday parties!)

Since it's always more fun to have pictures with reading...here is one of Spring Break crafts.

Eva is FIVE!

We can't believe our baby girl is five years old and will soon be in kindergarten! Why does the time have to pass so quickly?! After a rough winter with more trips to the doctor than I'd like to count (partly due to her thumbsucking habit, which we're working on), we're illness free for two months and, fingers crossed, have her asthma triggers under control. Now if we could get some meat on her bones! High energy + above average height + healthy and SLOW eater= bottom 5% tile in weight. Her doctor instructed us to feed her whole milk, pediasure, extra butter, peanut butter and cheese for three months. Wish I had could be on that diet! ;)

Even when sick, she is still the cheerful, thoughtful, and energetic little girl that entered our world five years ago. In January, when she had a 104 fever for two days, I said I wish I could take her place. She replies "No, mommy. I don't want you to be sick." Just melts my heart! I believe she has a bit of my dad in her...always putting others before herself.

Eva loves drawing, reading and writing in her journals, riding her bike, acting out princess adventures, and of course singing/"composing", and dancing. I look forward to her new songs everyday. She reminds me of my sister Julie when she was her age, making up songs about mundane routines like grocery shopping or cleaning her room. They are truly kindred spirits. Maybe someday Eva will sing in weddings and musicals like her Aunt Jules! We are just so proud of our 'baby girl'! Happy Birthday Eva Marie!

Eva's Birthday Celebrations

Eva wanted to have her party at Going Bonkers, and since she also wanted to invite her entire class, I was totally on board! Thanks to older cousins Julia and Joseph, Dylan was able to climb the large structure (meant for ages 4 and up). The kids had a blast, but I think the parents were exhausted- or maybe it was just me. :)


Keith was home on her actual birthday and since the weather was nice, we headed to the Dallas Zoo to check out the Savannah addition. We enjoyed the up close views of the lions, giraffes and elephants. We ended the afternoon with some ice cream and then realized that we celebrated her last birthday the exact same way, only in San Diego. Maybe a trip to the zoo and ice cream shop will be our new tradition.

Snow/Ice Storm

I took a little blog hiatus for a while. Now that we've celebrated birthdays, I can relax-so to speak. And as usual, I'm playing catch-up on my blogging, doing my best to remember everything we've done over the last two months.

Being cooped up during the record-breaking ice/snow storm wasn't so bad the first two days. We played games, had hot chocolate, built forts, painted and watched movies. We didn't play in the snow since it was bitterly cold and windy. We figured they could play the following day. Then around bedtime, Eva had a fever over 104 and said her chest & side hurt. With her asthma we didn't want to take any chances. Keith drove in the ice to urgent care, where they prescribed Tamiflu and an antibiotic. He brought Eva back home, then drove to a 24 hr pharmacy in Denton where they had just enough Tamiflu left. I was of course worried about him driving in the ice. He says 'it wasn't that bad'. Eva spent the next 36 hrs laying on the couch & resting in bed. By Saturday she felt well enough to enjoy the snow before it melted.

Dylan is THREE!

Another year quickly flew by! Dylan has changed and GROWN so much. Around 36 lbs, the kid weighs more than his sister(but, then Eva is a beanpole)!

Going to school one day a week has really helped him come out of his shell. He loves to greet Ms. Mary and Brother Andy with high fives and a "whathca doin' Ms. Mary' in his Buzz Lightyear voice. And, you'd never know that he had speech delays. He seems to be taking after his sister, striking a conversation with anyone who will listen (rarely do they have a choice). For some reason, he always wants to know where their phone is. He's obsessed with electronics! Wonder why?!

Besides flying around like his favorite Toy Story character, he loves his cars and trucks, rough-housing with Daddy, playing along with Eva's elaborate princess-adventures and safaris, building with Legos, coloring, and more recently learning to write letters. We are so proud of his accomplishments!

Dr. Seuss Day

To culminate their Dr. Seuss unit and celebrate his birthday, the Pre-K classes dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters. Eva decided on Daisy-head Mayzie, which sounded easy enough so I waited until the day before to assemble her outfit. Unfortunately I forgot that I was volunteering at school that day. Then we had ballet AND an unexpected trip to the doctor, AND then the pharmacy and finally Burger King cause mama didn’t have energy to cook. We finally got home at 7pm, enough time to rummage through her closet and craft supplies. And here's the finished product.....


I wish I had my camera with me when I dropped her off at school. There were so many cute costumes. The pre-k teachers were Thing 1 and Thing2. Some of her classmates came as Sneetches, Cindy Lou-Who and of course The Cat in the Hat. When it’s Dylan’s turn to dress up, I’ll be sure to prepare at least more than a day in advance.
